Tag des offenen Denkmals®: Laukhardtrullo

The Trullo was built in 1763 by its then owner, Philipp Brandenburger. Brandenburger likely used the Trullo for amorous adventures or even made it available for secret love meetings. The Trullo also served for social gatherings, where good wine was a must and exchanging thoughts was the norm. This is still true today. In Rheinhessian, such a small hut is referred to as a “Wingertshaisje.” During walks through Rheinhessen, one can find many of these striking whitewashed houses with the characteristic stone “Zippus” crowning the roof in the surrounding vineyards. The Trullo was dedicated to Friedrich Christian Laulhard (1757 to 1822) in 2007, honoring his achievements as a late Enlightenment thinker, writer, university teacher, soldier, revolutionary, and wine drinker. An important rule applies at the Trullo: “No bad wine is to be consumed here!”

We will report on the time in the 18th century and the reason for the building's construction. Readings from the works of C. F. Laukhard will take place in the tension between relevance and historicity.
Guests will be offered wine and pastries in exchange for donations.

Notes:
The events take place directly on the grounds of the Trullo. The location is surrounded by vineyards; sturdy footwear and clothing suitable for the day and weather conditions are recommended. Sanitary facilities are not available. No registrations are required.
