Research and Education – Windeck Castle in Heidesheim

The former lowland castle of Windeck in Heidesheim is one of the best-preserved medieval secular structures in Rheinhessen. Nevertheless, its appearance has changed significantly since it was built. The question of what it looked like in the Middle Ages became particularly pressing when a reconstruction was to be drawn for the Ingelheim Wimmelbuch. In a joint project between the Museum bei der Kaiserpfalz and the Institute for Classical Studies at the University of Mainz, geophysical surveys were therefore conducted and new considerations regarding this question were explored. The results and educational opportunities for presenting this information will be discussed in the lecture. Afterward, we invite you to join us for refreshments.
