Time travel on the Urrhein – Trail trekking between fossils, natural treasures, and wine enjoyment.
We embark on an exciting journey through millions of years right into the heart of Rheinhessen, starting at the Eppelsheim Museum. There, we meet the probably oldest "inhabitant" of the town – a spectacular fossil find that caused a stir worldwide.
Afterwards, the tour continues on paved and grassy paths along the sea of vines to the excavation site and through a nearby nature reserve. Today, this area impresses with its rich flora and fauna – but in the past, it was used quite differently.
Back in Eppelsheim, we explore the historic "Effenkranz." There, participants are welcomed with a sparkling wine reception before we continue trekking – passing by protected lime kilns, which are an impressive reminder of the former craft and the working world of past centuries.
The grand finale is a wine tasting with selected regional wines, accompanied by a small snack.
The starting point is at the sports field, Albert-Schweitzer-Str., Eppelsheim.
Participation fee: 25 euros.
