Rhine Cycle Route / Rheinhessen

Discover the beauty of this river landscape and the picturesque towns and villages on the banks of the Rhine. ATTENTION current closure: Eicher See due to new construction of the pumping station . The detour is signposted and is expected to be completed by August 2019.

With two daily stages, Rheinhessen is part of the 1,230-kilometer long-distance European cycle path. From Worms via Mainz to Bingen, these connect the regions of Palatinate and the Romantic Rhine. A pure river experience on over 90 kilometers of boating, alumni areas and last but not least the famous vineyards and vineyards of the Rheinterrasse make this the fascination. In Bingen, the Nahe Cycle Path connects.

Route guidance

The Rhine Cycle Route in the Rheinhessen region runs from Bingen am Rhein to about 90 km to the Nibelungen city of Worms.
The orchards, the Rhine with the accompanying alluvial forests and the consistently flat terrain characterize the section of the Rhine Cycle Route between Bingen and Mainz. Also between Mainz and Worms, this real river classic - also known as the "Veloroute Rhein" on this section - leads along the mighty Rhine stream, always close to famous large and small villages and natural stretches of shore.
Information about the further sections of the Rhine Cycle Route can be found here.

Requirement:
Stage Bingen-Mainz: without any slope, therefore suitable for all, also for families with children. Also suitable for hand cyclists, even if some sections of the cycle path are a bit narrow and there are obstacles in the city area of Mainz (eg taking along on pavements, intersections). Also suitable for racing cyclists.
Stage Mainz-Worms (Veloroute Rhein): No climbs, therefore suitable for all who can endure a few hours in the saddle. For racing cyclists sometimes braking bumps in the rubbers. For children and bicycles with trailers as well as for hand bikers several difficult spots (curves, posts, barriers, crossings), but thanks to long easy distances in between still reasonable.

Linings:
Some Leinpfalabschnitte that are not asphalted.
Section Bingen-Mainz: 2.5 km of sandy or split roads, all other routes asphalt, concrete paving or concrete pavements.
Stage Mainz-Worms (cycle route Rhine): 48 km of asphalt or concrete paths, 11 km of sand, gravel or split coverings, partly to avoid asphalt roads.
