Located in the heart of Mainz on Großen Bleiche, the Landesmuseum Mainz is one of the oldest museums in Germany. It impressively combines Baroque architecture with modern glass and steel design, housing one of the most significant art and cultural history collections in Rhineland-Palatinate.
The exhibition spans from the Stone Age to the present day and includes highlights such as prehistoric gold jewelry, Roman stone monuments, medieval sculptures, masterpieces of the Renaissance and Baroque, as well as paintings from the 19th century. Treasures from the Art Nouveau movement and works of Modernism further enrich the diverse offerings.
Visitors can expect barrier-free access, audio guides, video guides for the hearing impaired, as well as varied tours and educational programs for all age groups. In addition to the permanent exhibition, numerous special exhibitions continually offer new perspectives on art, culture, and history.
The Landesmuseum Mainz is not only a place for historical treasures but also a vibrant cultural venue that regularly hosts lectures, events, and cultural happenings.
Additionally, the café "Museum & Matcha" within the Landesmuseum invites you to linger. It offers a unique mix of selected coffee specialties, creative matcha drinks, homemade cakes, and light dishes such as salads, tarte flambée, and sandwiches. It is open daily from 11 AM to 4:30 PM (closed on Mondays). In addition to the regular offerings, the café also provides catering and can be used for smaller events – an ideal place for a delightful break during or after your museum visit.
