In the late Republic and Roman Imperial period, numerous depictions of comedy scenes emerged, primarily in wall paintings and mosaics, which were mostly used in a domestic context. They show various female figures, with the spectrum dominated by courtesans, brothel keepers, and young women with mostly low social status and precarious living conditions. The lecture by Univ.-Prof. Heide Frielinghaus deals with the conception of these female images and their functions in the domestic context.
