The parish church in Gabsheim is one of the oldest and most beautiful churches in Rheinhessen. Its commanding location above the village makes it a prominent point for the entire surroundings.

The exterior of this uniformly styled Gothic church at the edge of the village surprises with its magnificent interior. The single-nave longitudinal building, constructed around 1490, was converted into a hall between 1510 and 1518. The relatively short space, divided by four pillars into three equally high ships, is spanned by a sophisticated net vault: High-set or abruptly ending ribs create the impression of an infinite vault. The design for this spacious, noble area on the smallest footprint likely comes from the Meisenheim workshop, probably by Philipp von Gmünd himself.

A visit to this much too little-known church offers many surprises for the art lover. The three Gothic tracery windows of the choir, created in 1971 by the renowned stained glass artist Heinrich Hindorf, are particularly noteworthy. The glass artworks depict scenes from the history of salvation from the Old and New Testaments.

The church is closed outside of service times. Visits and guided tours can be arranged through the Catholic Parish Office in Saulheim.
