At the Mainz Kammerspiele in the Malakoff Passage, over 200 performances take place each season, including an average of seven original premieres. Currently, nine ensembles regularly work there, offering a wide range – from traditional and experimental spoken theater to contemporary ballet and current revues, as well as musicals for children. A special focus is placed on contemporary authors, first performances, world premieres, and self-produced works.
The program is supplemented by guest appearances from well-known artists and ensembles as part of festivals such as the puppet theater or children’s theater festival, special guest performances like "Chanson de Luxe," and collaborations with other initiatives and institutions.
The Mainz Kammerspiele are funded by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and the city of Mainz, which covers a large part of the operating costs. A support association and sponsors provide additional support, while the ensembles finance their productions solely from ticket sales – including stage, props, costumes, advertising, rights, and fees for all those involved.
The theater is managed by a permanent leadership team and supported by volunteers, interns, and the ensembles. In total, around 90 people are involved in the Kammerspiele. Each season, about 45,000 guests attend the performances. Additionally, the theater can be rented for private and public events.
