The local community of Westhofen was granted market rights in 1334. The marketplace is today listed as a historical monument as a whole and is one of the most beautiful in Rheinhessen due to its cohesiveness. In the past, weekly and annual markets were held in the lower part, the Gänsemarkt. The upper area served as a churchyard and burial site. The basic structure of its design was established in 1832. Architectural elements from the 16th to the early 19th century have been preserved in the surrounding buildings. Today, the marketplace is used for village festivals.
