Tobias Mann has been on stage for 35 years now – almost 20 of which as a solo cabaret artist with seven full-length shows. According to the Abendzeitung München, he “overflows with linguistic wit, playful aggression, and musical virtuosity.” The Westfälischen Nachrichten call him an “anarchist in a suit,” while the Hessische Allgemeine Zeitung even sees in him a “potential successor to Dieter Hildebrandt and Matthias Belz,” and the Frankfurter Neue Presse describes him as “funny, biting, and brutally honest.”
On the other hand, the Fränkischen Nachrichten describe him as a “half-grown goblin.” Well, that certainly is always in the eye of the beholder. In any case, this anarchic combat goblin now presents a full-fledged best-of program – and it’s packed: “A Whole Man – The Best of Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.” Of course, he brings along the best texts and songs from all his previous shows, but of course, current affairs are not neglected either. How could it be any different? Tobias Mann simply cannot help but to satirically comment on current events and to take a satirical slice of the current politics. This means that in this show not only are the classics polished to a shine, but they are also updated and boosted with new texts and songs as much as possible.
Whether he marries Goethe with German rap, sings about hardcore do-it-yourselfers and gardeners’ noise, uncovers tree frog conspiracies, explains why there are streams of expired yogurt in the afterlife, or tackles the politics of opposition and government with cabaret verve – Tobias Mann impressively shows the power of humor as a remedy for any madness in the world. He remains true to himself – yesterday just as today and tomorrow: A WHOLE MAN indeed.
