Family Day at the Old Signal Box Armsheim North (An): Mother's Day Excursion with Picnic Opportunity

The Friends of the Old Signal Box Armsheim (An) e.V. invite you to a day of experiences for young and old – the Family Day at the Old Signal Box on Sunday, May 17, 2026.

The signal box is open from 11 AM – 5 PM.

Everyone can look forward to knowledgeable and interesting tours inside and around the old signal box.

In the outdoor area, a Brio train model will explain in a child-friendly manner why signal boxes exist. Children will have the chance to operate switches, signals, and barriers themselves, thus "understanding" how a signal box works.

On the ground floor, the railway history of Rheinhessen is presented, along with the tension mechanism – ropes, weights, and signals can be admired.

On the upper floor, the daily work of a switchman is explained: what exactly needed to be done for trains to run safely. Here, everyone can operate switch and signal levers as well as the barrier crank themselves. On a display, they can then see and hear "how the train runs".

Something very special is the exciting rally around the signal box. There is much to discover, and those who "find everything" will even receive a diploma.

Under a pavilion, children – but of course also teenagers and adults – can build a unique locomotive out of LEGO bricks for a small fee and with guidance. Younger guests will surely have fun stamping and painting around the theme of railways. They can design their own railway route this way.

The Armsheim Book Box has filled the popular story suitcase with lots of books and fun. Marion Gerharz will read funny railway stories.

On a large table, Nick Kleinfelder will display his unique locomotives, tracks, and buildings made from Lego bricks. There is much to admire, even the Armsheim signal box he has accurately reconstructed in Lego.

The seating area with the signal box insect hotel invites visitors to relax, picnic, and learn about wild bees on the new information boards, with a view of the Armsheim pilgrimage church.

A diverse program for young and old awaits everyone on this Mother's Day: And those who bring provisions can spend a whole exciting family Mother's Day at the signal box.

Parking available at the train station or the sports field. Approximately 8 – 10 minutes walk to the signal box.

Free admission, donations are appreciated.
