“Sounds of Prayer” is a deeply moving music program that takes listeners on a powerful journey through the world’s spiritual traditions. Presented by the Jerusalem Duo (harp and saxophone), the program crosses the boundaries of religions and cultures to explore the common essence of prayer through the universal language of music. It highlights the diverse ways in which different cultures use music to express their deepest longings. With a careful selection of pieces from Jewish, Christian, Islamic, Hindu, Buddhist, African and Native American traditions, the program shows that music as a form of prayer and reflection unites all of humanity. With a moderation typical of the Jerusalem Duo, the audience is led through the various spiritual stations, emphasizing the timeless and universal message of hope and reconciliation. The program's outstanding works include Max Bruch's sublime Kol Nidrei, Schubert's popular Ave Maria and a meditative adaptation of the Islamic Adhan. Another highlight is the composition Ancient Echoes from Psalms by Israeli composer Amit Weiner, which was written especially for the Jerusalem Duo. This composition combines modern sounds with ancient biblical motifs and builds a bridge between history and the present. The musical journey ends with Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, a modern masterpiece that can be interpreted as a universal prayer for humanity and leaves the listeners in reflection and peace.
