Trail trekking in the "Sand" – a unique nature and cultural experience.
The "Sand" area near Gimbsheim and Guntersblum invites you to a special trail trekking experience: On historic Rhine dunes with rare flora and fauna, the path leads to the Guntersblum waterworks, an impressive pumping station in the baroque-inspired Art Nouveau style. This tour combines natural enjoyment with cultural discovery and is ideal for hikers, nature lovers, and history enthusiasts.
The light sandy soils, formed from post-glacial windblown sand of the Rhine, provide a habitat for numerous animal species and a unique plant world. After periods of agricultural use, many areas are now being maintained as traditional orchards to preserve the natural habitat.
The Art Nouveau waterworks impresses with its architectural design and tells the story of the region's technical history.
