1800 years ago, a magnificent villa was built in the area of today's castle park - the precious mosaic floors of the Roman hall testify to the wealth of the owners. Who were the people who lived here? Why did they choose this exact spot to erect a palace with 5,000 square meters of living space? Well, it is not precisely known. Or is it?
In an experiential tour, Petra Kiefer, as the hostess Silona, takes guests on a journey back in time to the 3rd century AD. She vividly and excitingly narrates the history of the villa and the Roman upper class of that time, explaining the artistic treasures and how the villa once looked. Silona reports with factual knowledge and imagination about trade with garum and slaves, takes the audience to the gladiator games and to the water god Oceanus, revealing many secrets along the way.
To this day, it remains unclear why an exceptionally large palace villa was built in the Roman small town of Cruciniacum, which was likely erected around 200 AD. The mosaic floors found here are considered outstanding, internationally known works of art.
