"Wine Hiking 'Around the Laurenziberg'

- Experience with the Culture and Wine Ambassadors of Rheinhessen -

On a hike around the Laurenziberg near Gau-Algesheim, one learns more about the history of this Rheinhessen region and the special soils on which terroir-driven wines grow. The starting point is at the small parking lot at the beginning of the bike path to Appenheim (GPS: "In der Stolzwiese 1). Along the Welzbach brook, the route leads to Appenheim and then to the top location "Hundertgulden" with its limestone-rich soil. The first wine impresses with the typicity of this site. Continuing over a section of the Jacobs Way, the path goes up to the Laurenziberg with its historically significant pilgrimage church. There, not only the next wine awaits, but also a winemaker's snack for fortification. The next destination is the Jakobsberg Monastery, which has an atmosphere that is hard to resist. The return to Gau-Algesheim takes you back through the vineyard, past the Johannisberger tower and the old pilgrim path.

On this 'decelerating' hike, you can enjoy the Welzbach, tranquil rural paths, magnificent views, and unique terroir wines.
