Westhofener Markt

A festival to commemorate the granting of market rights.

The local community of Westhofen was granted market rights in 1334. The marketplace is now protected as a structural ensemble and is considered one of the most beautiful in Rheinhessen due to its coherence. In the past, weekly and annual markets were held in the lower part, the Gänsemarkt. The upper area served as a churchyard and burial site. The basic design of the square was established in 1832. The adjacent buildings contain architectural elements from the 16th to the early 19th century.
