Rundwanderweg around the Petersberg with a fabulous panoramic view of Rheinhessen. Special interest is the archaeological processing of the medieval crypt of the Peterskirche on the summit.
The 7 km circular walk around the Petersberg lies between Bechtolsheim and Gau-Odernheim. The Petersberg belongs with 246 m to the highest elevations of Rheinhessen. At its summit is the ruins of the 10th-century St. Peter's Church with the once three-nave basilica on the "Mons beati petri", which was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War until then because of its special crypt But the underground crypt of St. Peter's can still be relived as an impression of space: two replicated staircases illustrate the processional character of the historic crypt, and since 2009 an alternative route to the St. Jacob's Way in Rheinhessen Over the Petersberg, two relaxation loungers and the wine tables invite hikers on this route for a break.

Hiking clothes, sturdy shoes, backpacking food with enough water, headgear, sunscreen
A convenient starting point is the parking lot at the Petersberghalle in Gau-Odernheim. From there, the clockwise markings soon lead over the Selz into the open field and vineyard landscape.
First goal is the outskirts of Bechtolsheim, where you stroll along a piece. At the height of the sports field, the route turns to Engelborner Brünnchen. From there, the path leads with a small dangling in the vineyards close to the Petersberg.
This is then the next stage goal. In addition to some information panels on the history, culture and nature of the region, the highlight of the tour is clearly the archaeological processing of the once three-aisled basilica on the summit. The 360-degree panorama extends over the Rhine-Hessian hill country to the Donnersberg (Pfalz), the Rochusberg (near Bingen) and the Feldberg (Taunus) as well as to the Melibokus (Odenwald).
From Petersberg several ways lead down. The most beautiful follows the path of the Lord God, on which believers have been making pilgrimage to the summit for centuries. No sooner have you left the hill, the mark points to the meadow path, which is lined with hedges. This leads to a field cross, where the view of Gau-Odernheim opens and invites you to linger in various seating areas such as the table of wine and hiking loungers before returning to the starting point after a short descent.
From Petersberg you have an indescribable panorama:
To the north you can see the administrative building of the ZDF, which is 18.7 km away, and the skyscrapers on the Mainz Lerchenberg. Towards the northeast you can see in very good visibility even the 50 km distant Frankfurt skyline and the Great Feldberg in the Taunus. To the southeast lies the Biblis Nuclear Power Plant, 18 km away, in front of the Odenwald Range. In the southwest is about 28 km away Donnersberg with the transmitter of the SWR.
