Das Gutenberg-Museum - Weltmuseum der Druckkunst

Mainz
on 13.12.2025 from 11:45 to 12:45 o'clock

During the one-hour tour, you will gain exciting insights into the life and work of Johannes Gutenberg – the inventor of movable type printing from Mainz. A vivid demonstration at the printing press will bring the "black art" to life and show how revolutionary Gutenberg's invention was for the dissemination of knowledge.

Afterwards, you will explore the new exhibition "Gutenberg Museum MOVED" at the museum's interim location in the Natural History Museum Mainz (Reichklarastraße 1). There, impressive exhibits await you on the history of writing, printing, and book culture – from the beginnings to the present day. Particularly noteworthy are the two originals of the 42-line Gutenberg Bible in the walk-in treasure chamber.

Please note: Admission to the museum is not included in the price of the tour and must be paid separately on-site. The ticket also entitles you to visit the Natural History Museum – an additional highlight in the heart of downtown Mainz.
