The Mainz Johannisnacht 2026 will be celebrated from June 19 to June 22, 2026, in downtown Mainz. This annual festival honors Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of printing with movable type, with a variety of events, including street art, rides, musical performances, and traditional customs such as "Gautschen."
A highlight of the Johannisnacht is the artists' market, which takes place along the banks of the Rhine from Kurfürstenbrunnen to Fischtorplatz. Here, artists present their handmade works such as jewelry, clothing, and decorations:
Friday, June 19, 2026: 2.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. (until 1.00 a.m.)
Saturday, June 20, 2026: 11.00 a.m. to 11.00 p.m. (until 1.00 a.m.)
Sunday, June 21, 2026: 11.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. (until 12.00 a.m.)
Monday, June 22, 2026: 2.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. (until 12.00 a.m.)
You should not miss the antiquarian book market, which invites you to browse again this year around Schillerplatz and Ballplatz:
Saturday, June 20, 2026: 11.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m.
Sunday, June 21, 2026: 11.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.
