RHEINHESSEN LIEST: Carola Cernavin-Haupt liest Heinrich Bechtolsheimer

Carola Cernavin-Haupt reads from the novel "Between Rhine and Donnersberg" by Heinrich Bechtolsheimer.
The novel "Between Rhine and Donnersberg," published in 1903 by Heinrich Bechtolsheimer (1868-1950), depicts life in Wonsheim and its surroundings during the "French period" at the beginning of the 19th century. Bechtolsheimer's debut novel is a vivid portrait of rural life from 1808-1814. The special charm of this still worthwhile story today lies in the empathetic and nuanced characterization of the characters, as well as well-developed local and historical information. Born in Wonsheim as the oldest of 5 children, Bechtolsheimer studied Protestant Theology in Giessen. From 1895, he served as a pastor in Mainz, later in Giessen. He spent his later years with his daughter in Hanover, where he died in 1950. At his own request, he was buried in his birthplace. Carola Cernavin-Haupt, a literature and reading enthusiast and spokesperson for the Heinrich Bechtolsheimer Circle Wonsheim, reads excerpts from this novel and introduces the author.
