Even more than 600 years after the birth of Johannes Gutenberg in Mainz, the traces of the famous inventor can still be found in many places in the city. Awarded as the "Man of the Millennium," the significance of Gutenberg's invention extends to the present day, and his influence on the dissemination of ideas and knowledge remains undisputed.

You can learn a lot of interesting and exciting things about this significant man and his invention during a visit to the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz. His first significant work, the Gutenberg Bible, can also be admired in the museum's rooms. ATTENTION: The Gutenberg Museum is undergoing renovations and will close its doors at the current location at Liebfrauenplatz 5 on May 20, 2024. On June 21, the interim exhibition will open at the Natural History Museum.

From cuneiform to modern typography, from manuscripts to letterpress printing, from the reconstructed Gutenberg workshop and the two Gutenberg Bibles to the museum's educational project space – the print shop – the permanent and special exhibitions provide a panorama of the 'black art.'
