At the southwestern edge of Heidesheim, the Schlossmühle, built in 1577, and the more modest Praumenmühle shape the local landscape. There were over a dozen mills here once, but only the mill at Sandhof still has a real water wheel. Since 1970, Schlossmühle has belonged to Boehringer Ingelheim and is now the seat of three foundations of the family business.
The history of Schlossmühle can be traced back to the 13th century. In 1970, it burned down to its foundations and was rebuilt by the new owners, the Boehringer family.
