The Werner winery was founded in 1819 and is today run as a family business in Ingelheim am Rhein by Thomas Werner in the eighth generation. On approximately 12 hectares of vineyards, wines are produced that reflect their origin, the lime-rich soil, and the signature of the winery.
For over 40 years, the vineyards have been farmed organically out of deep
conviction. This makes the winery one of the pioneers of organic viticulture in Germany.
The vineyards are exclusively located around Ingelheim and are shaped by the lime-rich soils of the region. The focus of the work is on the Pinot varieties, particularly
Spätburgunder, Frühburgunder, Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder, and Chardonnay. The range is complemented by Riesling and other characterful grape varieties.
In the vineyard and cellar, Thomas Werner relies on consistent handwork, hand harvesting, and a as gentle as possible aging process. Spontaneous fermentation, the targeted use of traditional wooden barrels, and a long maturation time give the wines the opportunity to develop their own character and origin.
The philosophy of the winery is clear: The closer the origin, the more individual and characterful the wine. This results in authentic Ingelheim wines that reflect their lime-rich soils, their origin, and the artisanal ambition of the winery – organic, sustainable, and with great passion for the Pinot varieties.
