The Unfinished Heisje

The Wingertsheisje was presumably built in 1918 and expanded with the construction of the gable wall in 1967.

The vineyard was originally a stone quarry in the southern area, the Heisje possibly served as a shelter for the workers. In the 1960s, the pit was filled and laid out as a vineyard.

In 2019, the sundial was put into operation.

Height: 182
District: "Auf der Steingrube"

History / Stories / Anecdotes:

The vineyard was operated as a stone quarry by the Hirsch family until the 1960s.
The first Wingertsheisje was built by Rudolf Hirsch, seemingly as a shelter for his workers in the quarry.
After the quarry was filled and laid out as a vineyard, it was purchased by the Grünewald winery.
It was Julius Grünewald who enlarged the Heisje. Using baroque architectural elements, he further expanded the Heisje. He built up the gable and wanted to install a sundial at the top. Unfortunately, this was not completed - the plate still lies in his yard.
Behind the gable, a bench and a table were to be built, but this work also remained unfinished.
