Civic bus association Alzey-Land

With the help of LEADER funding, a citizen bus has been in operation in the municipality of Alzey-Land since the beginning of 2018. The Citizen Bus supports citizens who are no longer so mobile for a variety of reasons and connects the local communities Bechenheim, Erbes-Büdesheim, Mauchenheim, Nack, Nieder-Wiesen and Offenheim with destinations in Alzey, Flonheim, Kirchheimbolanden and Wendelsheim.

The citizen bus is steered by honorary drivers and removes the citizens from home for free. These are then brought to their desired goal - to the doctor, to physiotherapy, to offices or for shopping - and also back home. In total, 40 people support the Bürgerbus project free of charge during their free time, either as driver or coordinator.

Since the citizens' bus is flexible in the travel times, it can also take into account the special needs of passengers. Due to the personal contact, the volunteer drivers know which particular time requirements individual passengers bring along and can schedule travel times accordingly. The citizens bus was equipped so that also wheelchairs and rollators can be transported.

However, the project is not just about transportation, but also about empowerment and communication within a place. The Bürgerbus is in a way a mobile communication meeting place where citizens can exchange and network with each other.

• Strengthen the mobility and care of elderly, disabled and immobile people

• Meaningful activity through volunteer work and neighborhood help
