Kunstinstallation GAIA in der Alzeyer Nikolaikirche

The Protestant Deanery of Alzey-Wöllstein will showcase Luke Jerram's artwork "Gaia" in the Alzey Nikolaikirche from May 9 to June 3, 2026. A globe with a diameter of six meters will float in the nave during this period, offering visitors a unique view of the blue planet. This special perspective of our Earth is usually only experienced from space, for instance, as an astronaut on the ISS.

Preservation of Creation/sustainable use of the Earth

The art installation aims to raise awareness of the interconnectedness of all life on Earth. At the same time, it encourages a sustainable and resource-conserving approach to our planet.

In the creation narrative, it is stated: God created our world as we know it today. He brought us light and darkness, the sky and the stars, ordered land and water, and made plants grow. He created the animals and humans and breathed life into our planet. And He saw that His work was wonderful.

The Protestant Deanery of Alzey-Wöllstein invites everyone interested to come and see for themselves how beautiful our Earth is by visiting GAIA in Nikolaikirche Alzey. We are sure that its sight will amaze you! The art installation is complemented by a diverse accompanying program that invites reflection, dreaming, and participation. As Christians, we see the preservation of creation as our responsibility. This includes a peaceful and just coexistence of all people on this Earth as well as environmentally and climate-friendly behavior. These thoughts are reflected in the program.
