Kunstinstallation GAIA in der Alzeyer Nikolaikirche: Eröffnung der Ausstellung

On May 9, we warmly invite you to the exhibition opening. At 11 a.m., we will celebrate the start of this special art installation in the Nikolaikirche.

The Protestant Deanery Alzey-Wöllstein will showcase Luke Jerram's artwork "Gaia" in the Alzeyer Nikolaikirche from May 9 to June 3, 2026. A globe six meters in diameter will float in the nave during this period, allowing visitors a unique view of the blue planet. The special perspective of our Earth is otherwise only available from space, e.g. as an astronaut on the ISS.

Preservation of creation/sustainable handling of the Earth

The art installation aims to raise awareness of the connection of all life on Earth. At the same time, it encourages sustainable and resource-conserving practices with our planet.

In the creation narrative, it is said: God created our world as we know it today. He brought us light and darkness, the sky and the stars, ordered land and water, and let plants grow. He created the animals and humans and breathed life into our planet. And he saw that his work was wonderful.

The Protestant Deanery Alzey-Wöllstein invites all interested parties to get a glimpse of how beautiful our Earth is by visiting GAIA in the Nikolaikirche Alzey. We are sure that its sight will leave you in awe! The art installation is complemented by a diverse accompanying program that invites reflection, dreaming, and participation. As Christians, we see the preservation of creation as our task. This includes a peaceful and just coexistence of all people on this Earth as well as environmentally and climate-friendly behavior. These thoughts are reflected in the program.
