Mainzer Rosenmontagszug – Carnival Parade

The Mainz Rose Monday Parade is the highlight of the Mainz Carnival and one of the largest carnival events in Germany. Every year, it transforms the city into a colorful festival mile full of music, humor, and joyous revelry. On 08.02.2027, the traditional parade will start at 11:11 a.m. in Mainz Neustadt and will move through the city center to the area around the Mainz Cathedral.

Along a route of approximately 7 kilometers, visitors will experience a colorful spectacle over several hours. Around 10,000 active participants – including carnival clubs, political floats, the famous Schwellköpp, music bands, flag bearers, and groups – create atmosphere and entertainment. Along the route, about 600,000 spectators will watch the festive activities and celebrate the Mainz Carnival together.

The origins of the Mainz Rose Monday Parade date back to 1838. Today, it ranks alongside the parades in Cologne and Düsseldorf and is one of the three most significant Rose Monday parades in Germany. Characteristic of Mainz is the combination of humor, music, and political satire. The parade is broadcast live on television and organized by the Mainz Carnival Club (MCV). For visitors, it offers the opportunity to experience the Mainz Carnival in all its diversity and atmosphere up close.
