On Wednesday, 19.02.2025, at 19:00, the season opening of the Garden Guides Association Rheinhessen will take place at the Service Center for Rural Areas Rheinhessen-Nahe-Hunsrück, 55276 Oppenheim, Wormser Str. 111. We feel the effects of climate change even in our immediate surroundings and in our gardens: sometimes extreme drought, then heavy rain, and increasingly frequent periods of heat stress for both humans and nature. All of this influences what we plant and how we can use our gardens. Endless watering with tap water is no longer timely; rather, we must contribute to mitigating the negative effects of climate change through the design and use of our gardens.
The following topics will be covered in the lecture:
1. Collecting and storing rainwater (rain barrels and cisterns)
2. Using rainwater (where, how, and how much is possible)
3. Letting rainwater infiltrate, instead of directing it into the sewage system
4. What other measures make the garden a "sponge"
Garden planner Elke Blänsdorf shows how your own garden contributes to the water cycle: with tips on rain barrels, cisterns, and the infiltration of rainwater in beautiful, effective infiltration basins. Current information will be available close to the date on the homepage: www.offene-gaerten-in-rheinhessen.de
