Franz Eichenauer led the Artist Group Nahe for 30 years and shaped its work. He was intensively committed to the expansion and maintenance of German-French friendship and was one of the pioneers and driving forces of artistic exchange with the partner city of Bourg-en-Bresse. For promoting European ideals in the artistic field, he received the Kaiser-Lothar Prize (European Association of Visual Artists from Eifel and Ardennes) in 1987. For his life's work, the state of Rhineland-Palatinate honored him in 1994 with the Order of Merit of the State.
