24.05.2017 Pleasing tourism numbers for Rheinhessen

Guest numbers continue to increase in 2017

With a significant increase of 6.8% in overnight stays and 7.8% in the number of guests in the first quarter of 2017, the success of tourism in the Rhineland is continuing. The further increase compared to the record year 2016 is all the more pleasing, as the number of guests and overnight stays in the winegrowing region has been steadily rising for years. For Burkhard Müller, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Rheinhessen-Touristik GmbH, this continuing popularity of Rheinhessen justifies the sometimes considerable investments that have been made in the last ten years by private and public authorities for the expansion of the tourism infrastructure. In order to maintain this dynamic, the tourism organizations in Rheinhessen have recently embraced the new tourism strategy 2025 - Erlebnis.Wein.Kultur.Landschaft . agreed.

According to information from the State Statistical Office, the number of overnight stays grew only in three out of nine Rhineland-Palatinate tourism regions - in Rheinhessen, in the Westerwald and in Hunsrück. On a national average, the changes are + 1.2% guest arrivals and - 5.0% overnight stays.

The numbers at a glance: January - March 2017:

  • Guests: 204,980 (+ 7.8% compared to previous year)
  • Overnight stays: 337,665 (+ 6.8% compared to previous year)
