Hiwwel route

The Hiwwel route uses many other cycling routes in parallel and therefore connects many theme trails and cycle routes.

Maybe it's not really 1,000 hills, but felt it could be so many. On the total of 164 kilometers Hiwwel route
you cycle over some of them. The Rheinhesse lovingly calls her "Hiwwel". From Bingen in the northwest via Mainz into the heart of Rheinhessen to Wörrstadt and Alzey to the southeast to Worms, the route beats two large arches through the region in four daily stages. The ideal tour to discover Rheinhessen with its many facets. It has many points of contact with other Rhine-Hessian theme routes and thus enables some interesting combinations for individual route planning. On the Rhine-Nahe-Eck in Bingen - the gateway to the "UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley" - the Hiwwel Route has connection to the two long-distance cycle paths Rhein- and Naheradweg.

Route guidance

Rheinhessen in all its diversity - that's the Hiwwel route. It connects the cities of Worms, Alzey, Mainz, Ingelheim and Bingen with the hilly Hessian landscape. Hence her name: Hiwwel - these are, according to Rheinhessen dialect, the hills that offer wonderful views over the entire country on this route. The route is about 160 km long and divided into four stages.Hiwwel-Route Stage 1, Bingen-Mainz: The first stage is a tour with two different halves: To Ingelheim near the Rhine with a flat course, to Mainz with Two clear climbs up to the northernmost Rhenish Hessian Hügelstufe.Hiwwel Route Stage 2, Mainz-Wörrstadt: First in southern, then westward this second stage of the Hiwwel route leads into the middle of Rheinhessen and spreads again and again wide panoramas in front of the cyclists out. The 'Price' are two distinct, long climbs on roads that are far from the traffic.Hiwwel-Route Section 3, Wörrstadt-Alzey: The 'hiwweligste' and therefore the most demanding - third stage of the Hiwwel-Route leads close to Rheinhessen Switzerland and costs the Heights of some of the 1000 'Hiwwel' Rheinhessens from bottom to top: Twice Wiesbachtal, once Appelbachtal and finally the watershed between Wiesbach and Selz direction Alzey.
