Galerie im Burggrafiat: Anja Vorrath - Mix it!

Under the title "Mix it!" the artist Anja Vorrath from Mainz is exhibiting.

People, food, plants. Years, themes, techniques. Mix fibers into pulp. These are the ingredients of this exhibition. However, one thing always remains the most important: it is art – or is it food?

In her works, Anja Vorrath repeatedly references the essential theme of "food." She presents "Chili," the spicy condiment-vegetable, in four very different series and content approaches, primarily as oil paintings. Her latest series "Origo" is conceived quite differently. Here she uses three fundamentally different types of works to make the main statement of the series perceptible – respect and appreciation for our environment. Exemplarily, the artist chooses individual fruits, vegetables, and plants from her surroundings as her objects.

Randomly lying leftover onion scraps, for example, serve as a template for color-reduced drawings that address a fundamental language of forms of the selected species. The onion skins also serve Anja Vorrath as material for her second group of works: in intuitively modeled sculptures made from plant-based materials, the species quite literally present themselves in their own skin. Finally, naturalistically painted watercolors depict the objects in the third group of works in various states, such as an onion whole, cut, or in a withered state. Because everything holds its own magic.

The human also has his role in the exhibition. In the large-format series "Dancers," emotional interactions are displayed. The classically themed topic is painted in black and white tones and in oil, not solely for the sake of tradition.

Anja Vorrath is a graduate designer and visual artist. She currently works and lives in Mainz. Since 1996, she has regularly participated in solo and group exhibitions.

On March 22, 2026, the artist will be present from 2 PM to 6 PM and will gladly guide interested visitors through the exhibition.
