Mainz in November 1945: Three-year-old Karin Becker is playing in the yard. Her mother can see her through the window. But when she wants to bring the child inside at noon, she has disappeared ... Six years later, Mainz Commissioner Valentin Reitz comes across a newspaper article about a mentally disabled child abductor who was forcibly sterilized by the Nazis. Suddenly, doubts awaken in him ... Did the police close the case too quickly back then? With care and diligence, Reitz picks up the trail and soon follows it to Wuerzburg, Heidelberg, Stuttgart, Munich, and Armsheim. The novel, published in 2019, addresses one of the most spectacular cases of the post-war period, the resolution of which caused a nationwide sensation.
