The wine award

The Chamber of Agriculture Rhineland-Palatinate awards wines that stand for a special quality. A selection of these awarded wines will be presented at the Weinforum Rheinhessen.

In Germany, there are recognized institutions that point out an assortment of the best wines according to objective standards. The largest of its kind is the state award for wine and sparkling wine in Rhineland-Palatinate. For decades, the state award has been the undisputed authority in the evaluation and awarding of premium wines.

The causes are obvious:

  • A set of rules accessible to everyone guarantees objectivity, materiality and transparency.
  • In small groups trained examiners with a sensory certificate grade each sample in a blind tasting
  • The absence of any commercial interests in the Chamber of Agriculture as the implementing institution.

Free access to the competition for every winegrower, winery or producer group that gives each participant the same fair chance, regardless of titles or decorations. Around 500 winegrowing enterprises in Rheinhessen confirm year after year the correctness of the concept and the value of the award.

While winegrowers value the state award as a useful marketing tool, restaurateurs and consumers know that a corresponding medal on the wine bottle is a seal of special quality that is well above the minimum standard that guarantees such as the official wine quality inspection number.
