During a vineyard rearrangement in 1978, three adjacent sarcophagi were found and excavated on the hilltop "Greifenberg." The expansive building complex located north of the village (district of Elsheim) includes the courtyard on the plateau edge with adjacent park and agricultural areas extending to the municipal boundary with Schwabenheim. The settlement, created amidst the associated arable land likely through deforestation in the 12th century, belonged to the "Ingelheimer Grund" and only appears in documents in 1307 ("wynthuß berge"). Early owners included, among others, the Monastery of Ingelheimerhausen (1328-1411).

The church, which was built in 1740, is located on elevated ground on the southern edge of the village on what was once a fortified churchyard. It houses one of the famous Stumm organs from 1787. Inside the church building, remnants of Baroque paintings are visible, including Bible quotations, coats of arms, and dates. The Romanesque tower dates back to a previous building and was probably erected around 1200.

The wine-growing community of Schornsheim was first mentioned in 782 AD in a deed of gift from Charlemagne to the Hersfeld monastery.
