With "IF NOT WHEN THEN NOW," Rolf Miller will certainly achieve one thing again: elegantly stumbling around the elephant in the room. For that is his character: stubborn as a sack of cement – which can only be allowed thanks to his humor. Grandoise ignorant, vitally dull, and completely half-informed. As always, the comedian stoically becomes exactly the rock in the surf that looks away with confidence, grandly says everything on important topics and guarantees says nothing; and, of course, notices everything except for his own failure.
The more everything around him collapses, the less we can comprehend how this rooster does not notice what is going on. "He just doesn't see it," one would say in real life. Luckily, this dangerously ill vehicle remains on a stage. "Counter-fascination," Roger Willemsen once said: the viewer can look down when watching the jungle camp and therefore delight in it. Contrary to the perpetrator. However, Miller achieves the "narrow tightrope walk," as he would incorrectly call it; presenting his character on the one hand, but also reflecting our own failure on the other hand; fortunately with his registers of barely heightened satire, with exactly the lightness we know from him – and therefore not even immediately noticing how he at least tranquilizes the elephant: "...if not when, uh then ... now ... so uh ... in terms of the thing ... practically..."
