Winery Jung-Knobloch in Albig

Lighthouse energy efficiency in viticulture

As part of a nationwide project called "Energy Efficiency in Agriculture", Bernhard Degünther (DLR Rheinhessen-Nahe-Hunsrück, Oppenheim) presented the Jung-Knobloch winery in Albig to interested visitors as a beacon for energy efficiency in viticulture and proved it with impressive figures.

Owner and manager Tobias Jung has been working on optimizing the winery in terms of energy consumption for years. He presented his impressive measures for increasing energy efficiency very openly and proved them right with good numbers.

The three main sources of savings in this winery are:

  • the house, which was built as a solar house and now even provides energy
  • the cooling tower in winemaking, which drastically reduces energy consumption in white and red wine production and takes the energy and labour peaks of the 60-hectare farm in the harvest time,
  • the LED lighting in the company building, which pays off in two and a half years and then just as efficiently saves energy costs.

The audience eagerly listened to these statements and empirical values, as many of the colleagues who are currently involved in construction issues were there.

An example of how, with clever planning, innovative concepts and modern technology, energy and costs can be saved, which benefits climate protection.
