The Werner winery was founded in 1819 and is today run as a family business in its eighth generation by Thomas Werner in Ingelheim am Rhein. On approximately 12 hectares of vineyards, wines are produced that reflect their origin, the calcareous soil, and the signature of the winery.
For over 40 years, the vineyards have been managed organically out of deep conviction. Thus, the winery is one of the pioneers of organic viticulture in Germany.
The vineyards are exclusively located around Ingelheim and are characterized by the calcareous soils of the region. The focus of the work is on the Burgundy varieties, especially Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay. The range is complemented by Riesling and other characterful grape varieties. In the vineyard and cellar, Thomas Werner relies on consistent manual work, hand harvesting, and a gentle maturation process. Spontaneous fermentation, the targeted use of traditional wooden barrels, and a long aging period give the wines the time to develop their character and origin.
The philosophy of the winery is clear: the closer the origin, the more individual and characterful the wine. Thus, authentic Ingelheimer wines are created that reflect their calcareous soils, their origin, and the artisanal quality requirement of the winery – organically, sustainably, and with great passion for the Burgundy varieties.
