
The winery has been practising organic viticulture since 1978. The Schmitt family was one of the first winegrowers in Germany to take the concept of sustainability seriously and completely abandon the use of synthetic chemical fertilisers and sprays. They were co-founders of ECOVIN, the Federal Association of Organic Viticulture. The vaulted cellar dating back to 1865 is spanned by two stone arches. The logo of our winery shows them as a symbol of our winemaking tradition.

Today, the winery is run by the 14th generation of the Anheuser family, the brothers Rudolf and Paul Anheuser.
