Weiberfastnacht, also known as Altweiberfastnacht, is an integral part of Mainz Carnival and is traditionally celebrated on the Thursday before Rose Monday. It marks the beginning of the four colorful days of street carnival "uff de Gass" and is one of the most festive events of the merry season. The focus of the festivities is Schillerplatz, which transforms into a large open-air celebration on this day.

Typical for Weiberfastnacht are the exuberant atmosphere, music, and the symbolic takeover of power by women. By the morning, squares, streets, and pubs fill with costumed carnival fans who celebrate, dance, and enjoy the special atmosphere together. Live music around the Carnival fountain creates a lively mood and makes Schillerplatz a meeting point for locals and visitors.

Mainz Carnival – also referred to as "Meenzer Fassenacht" – is one of the most significant carnival traditions in Germany. It is known for its sharp-tongued political humor and vibrant street culture. Weiberfastnacht offers visitors an ideal introduction to experience Mainz Carnival authentically and right in the heart of the action.
