Winery Merl

We are a family winery in which everyone works with heart and soul. We vouch for quality and premium wines, which are developed in a traditional and gentle way. So we see our task in guiding the development of grapes and wine in the right direction. They should express their origin and variety typicity in an elegant and harmonious way.
Passion
Two things run like a thread through the history of our winery: the sure instinct for innovative impulses and the passion for sparkling wine and wine. The passion that has characterized the winery since time immemorial, its competence and experience we take today more literally than ever. Because there is no future without origin - and less enjoyment of good sparkling wine and wine.
Philosophy
To be able to identify with our wines, it is very important to us to produce natural wines. Quality always comes first. And we achieve this in the traditional way: working in the vineyard. Through our laborious manual work in the foliage processing and the selection of the grapes only healthy and aromatic grapes for make it into our cellar for wine production. There, the particularly careful handling of the grapes is our top priority. So that the wines get their natural carbon dioxide, no unnecessary movements are made. The result: lively, fruity wines that simply delight!

Groß-Winternheimer Bockstein

Groß-Winternheimer Bockstein

Army road, dry stone wall and Rieslings

Just like Elsheim, Groß-Winternheim also has a single vineyard called Bockstein. This does not come as a surprise, as the two villages are only five kilometres apart, both by the Selz River and on the former army road. In the past, loads were carried on the back, jacked up (german: “aufgebockt”). Hence the name. Excellent Rieslings are produced here on loess, sand and clay marl. Lizards bask in the sun along the dry stone walls. The hiking trail Westerberg Hiwweltour leads directly along Groß-Winternheim. Along the river Selz, there are wonderful places for cycling.
