The complex, which was probably built in the 13th century, was the nucleus of the Rhenish Palatinate, a secondary residence and the seat of the district administration. Under the two Ruprechts in particular, Count Palatine Ruprecht II and Ruprecht III, who was German king as Ruprecht I from 1400 to 1410, Alzey Castle was one of the favourite residences of the Counts Palatine. Ruprecht II was therefore sometimes referred to as the ‘Duke of Alzey,’ and during King Ruprecht's reign, Alzey and its castle were even considered the…

This defensive tower “die Schnecke” (the snail) controlled the former defensive wall, situated between the midle Altegässer and the now equally torn down Hammergässer Gate, (crossing: Unterer Zwerchweg/Mühlstraße). The weighty building from the end of the 14th century was still not roughcast in1900, so that the interesting construction of foundation and pointed cone roof can be easily recognised, a technique that can also be seen on the “Trulli” in the vineyards.

The Untertorturm is one of the seven towers of the Fleckenmauer wall built in the 15th century for protection. The gate, which was knocked down in 1840, was previously operated day and night. The battlements led around the tower over the gate to the other side of the street. Until the renovation in 1989, the high entrance in the west was the only access to the three-storey watchtower. Among other things, the tower served as a guardroom and probably also as the guard's flat. Text according to the signs on the tower with the kind permission of…

The stones used to build it came from the demolished Königsstuhl between Nierstein and Lörzweiler, where in 1024 the assembly of princes elected Conrad II as the first Salian king on the German throne. The clock tower in Oppenheim was built in 1843/44 on the remains of a former defensive tower of the medieval town fortifications in the neo-Gothic style. Culture at the Estate - the small arts stage at Weyell Winery looks back on a long family history. The large-framed farmhouse was built in 1713 and has been in the family since 1850. Here, not only winemaking is a tradition, but agriculture was also part of the Weyell family's activities. In 1995, a family member had the idea to use the large inner courtyard for an event, and thus the small arts stage was born. Whether cabaret, comedy, or live music - the offered program is diverse and also takes place in the winery's own vaulted cellar…
